Planning your trip helps you all along. "Trip Planning" is not just about taking directions to your destination or planning doesn't stop by just booking the hotel and the air tickets/car rental. A perfect trip plan would have the whole trip planned out as to where you will be at a time of the day, what you are going to visit and how the sequence of events are going to be on the trip.

Yeah, I agree, with this kind of wording, 'trip' doesn't sound like fun and it feels that it is only for control ass freaks but if you think of it, it is better to plan or think about your whole trip than to lose way or end up without gas on a remote exit.
Also, One of the worst things that can happen on a trip is to stand in a line for 4 or 5 hours, just to get the entrance ticket and even more frustrating if, at the ticket counter,  you see a board saying 'You can now Book Online'. So, you would think at that time that, if only you had spent some time and booked that entrance ticket online, your trip would have been more eventful.

Now-a-days, with so much competition for service oriented websites, we, the consumers have a lot of options. We have a lot of intuitive websites to help us plan our trips. The printouts you get from these websites, some of them, are just awesome.
Your trip can be a drive or by flight or might include both. If it includes both, planning is a must. If you are going in a group, it is time to delegate responsibilites.

Let's take a look at the different websites that allow you to create a trip plan online. Websites like tripit.com make it a lot easier to get the whole itinerary organized if you plan to take a flight.

Now, the above websites allow you to print/create directions  along with intermediate stops for road trips and also let you actually choose how to go about planning a trip. Planning a trip needs you to first pick a spot to go to and some of these websites help you in that too. And here comes into play, the ever popular social-networking concept again. On these social trip websites, you can actually look up other people's itineraries, vacation plans and choose if they work for you. Also, you can get advice/tips and plan your trip the way you want it to be.
